Como nuestra tarjeta era 802.11g nos encontramos con el problema de que no era lo suficientemente sensible a la hora de escanear como una 802.11b, así que para modificar la velocidad de transferencia de la tarjeta inalámbrica lo podemos hacer con el comando iwconfig de las wireless extensions en Linux.
Para empezar deberemos saber a que bitrate está trabajando nuestra tarjeta actualmente y que bitrates soporta.
$ iwlist ath0 rate

Como podemos comprobar nuestra tarjeta ahora se muestra como una de tipo 802.11b transfiriendo a 1Mb/s También podemos determinar una velocidad como tope y que la tarjeta seleccione automáticamente la velocidad sin sobrepasar ese tope con la orden:
$ iwconfig ath0 rate 9Mb/s auto
Ahora si queremos volver a la configuración por defecto debemos introducir
$ iwconfig ath0 rate 36M
Nos aseguramos de que nuestra tarjeta vuelve a transmitir como una 802.11g
